c3: Crystals, Cosmos, and Chains

When I look up at the stars and realize how small our planet really is in the grand scheme of things, my problems don't seem as big. The cosmos keep me in an utter state of awe and wonder, this mystic black void that we know so little about. I feel like I can create my own philosophies and mythology through painting. There's already so much unknown in the canopy of stars, whose to say my fantastical depictions are wrong. In my studio, I feel the most free to create what resonates with me. Even if it is a crystal yoni that has the cosmos dripping from it's queendom with bees swarming in admiration ;)

Our society seems to be in a "like" contest; trying to portray the coolest persona for followers and likes. Outkast said "Can't worry bout what another nigga think, that's Liberation and baby I want it!" I keep this mantra in the forefront of my mind as I paint my purple Queens and gold chains where I was told my style isn't fine art.

Lyrics do it for me. Vibing out to Sza, Kendrick, Badu, Flying Lotus, Fetty Wap, Marvin Gaye, FKA Twigs or a simple trap beat, I get too turnt in the studio! You know how it feels when the beat drops on your song?! YAASSS...LIT! Hip hop has always inspired my work on a conscious level. The strength, swag, and hustle of our people was told through stories in Hip Hop. Turning trials into triumph has been the story of our community for generations. But did we just paint those chains gold? What is it about our obsession with gold, bling, and shiny things? Well, the Motherland is the home of alchemy where gold and diamonds are plenty. It's not our fault we like fancy things, we come from a long lineage of Queens.

Our Earth sheds tears daily but we only listen when She blows our buildings down. Maybe the buzzing of a bee is too soft of a sound for us to hear. My love for bees go beyond their beautifully contrasting color scheme, sweet honey, and efficient matriarchal system. It also is directly correlated to how insanely important they are to our human existence. Honestly, I don't know who can save the world. I really don't know if the world needs "saving". But by making sure the next generation has food to eat, good air to breathe, and quality water to drink, is called saving the world, I'm down.
